Farmhouse roofs often have a steep main run with a lower porch or addition roof tying into a wall. That tie-in is where we spend the time. Step flashing cut into the sidewall, not a bead of caulk along the joint.

Where a lower roof meets an upper wall is the single most common leak point on the homes out here, and it is almost always the flashing rather than the shingles. That is a contained repair, not a reason to replace a sound roof.

Open-field wind tears tabs off outright and breaks the seal on the ones it leaves behind. Both need finding. Outbuildings take the same hits as the house and are worth inspecting at the same visit.

Detached garages, sheds and barns are the items most often missing from an approved scope on a Waupun property. If it is on your lot and it took the same storm, it belongs in the claim, and we will make sure the adjuster sees all of it.

Long, straight eave runs on farmhouses and outbuildings mean long runs of fascia, and one bad section of gutter pitch can rot several feet of board. We fix the pitch at the same time or you will be replacing it again.

The recurring situation here is a house that has been painted repeatedly without enough preparation, so there is a thick, brittle film letting go in sheets down to bare wood. That takes real scraping and feather-sanding before anything else. It is the whole reason the farmhouse in our gallery came out the way it did.

Older homes out here mean plaster walls, painted woodwork with generations of coats on it, and colors that need a tinted primer rather than an extra finish coat. Walls, ceilings, trim and doors, room by room.

Fences, decks and barn siding all take the full sun and wind out here. On wood that has already grayed and weathered unevenly, a semi-solid or solid stain gives a consistent finish and holds up far longer than a transparent one will.
